Pilgrimage People traces its roots to May 2000 and a pilgrimage to the Holy Land organised by Fr Paul Maddison, a Catholic Priest from the Diocese of East Anglia.
Fr Paul was touched by the fact that although Holy Places were crowded with tour groups there was little contact with the local Christian communities, arguably the “mother community” of the Church, but who due to a complex mix of economic, social and political pressures now represent only 1.5% of the population in the region, a figure that has halved in the last 13 years.
Working with Gemm Travel, a local Christian tour operator committed to using Christian owned hotels, restaurants and travel services, and supported by dedicated group of UK volunteers, Fr Paul arranged for parishes in the Diocese of East Anglia to visit their brethren in the Holy Land to enjoy fellowship and celebrate Mass.
In 2010 Fr Paul’s work was recognised by Michael Evans, then Bishop of the Diocese, who granted Paul a four year sabbatical to establish Pilgrimage People as a UK Charity, providing pilgrimage tours to the Holy Places, with all profits being returned to the Latin Patriarch to support health, education and community projects in the Holy Land.
Pilgrimage People is now an expanding ATOL bonded tour company, run by an experienced professional team from our offices in Cambridge UK. We offer a wide range of destinations and itineraries with departures from airports across the UK, Ireland and the United States. We are committed to providing the highest levels of customer service and the best possible experience of the lives lived today by the Christians who remain as “living stones” in the land of Christ.
